The scan is produced in a “Point Cloud” format. A Point Cloud is a set of data points in space. Point clouds are generally produced by 3D scanners, which measure many points on the external surfaces of objects around them. As the output of 3D scanning processes, point clouds are used for many purposes, including to create 3D CAD models for manufactured parts and for a multitude of visualisation, animation, rendering and mass customisation applications.

AutoDesk’s ReCap software is a simple-to-use package that allows you to directly open point cloud files and, with the help of a few customizable import settings, filter data you don’t need and work with your files in a more manageable size. It gives you a real-time view of the design concept and how it will look as a finished product once installed. Avoiding any unforeseen clashes during construction.
